European Data Protection Supervisor
as a supervisory authority based in Brussels, ensures the strict observance and implementation of rules on the protection of personal data during their processing, collection, recording, storage, transmission, deletion or any other act in the EU institutions, bodies and agencies. The scope of work also includes advisory activities related to all aspects of personal data processing, handling complaints, conducting investigations and inquiries on its own initiative or on request, cooperating with national authorities of EU Member States and monitoring new technologies related to personal data protection. The Data Protection Supervisor is appointed by the European Parliament and the Council for a five-year term with multiple renewals.
Data on:
- racial and ethical affiliation,
- political belief,
- religious and philosophical supervision,
- trade union membership,
- state of health (except for medical purposes and in accordance with the oath of professional secrecy),
- sexual orientation (except for medical purposes and in accordance with the oath of professional secrecy),
it is not allowed to collect and process by any EU institution or any other EU body.
If the subject considers that the EU institution or EU body has violated his right to privacy in the processing of personal data, he shall proceed as follows:
1. warn the infringer - the institution and staff who processed the data where the infringement occurred. In the event of an inappropriate or unsatisfactory response from the offender, it may
2. contact the Data Protection Officer of the EU institution or body concerned. In case of dissatisfaction or failure, the subject can
3. lodge a complaint with the European Data Protection Supervisor through:
- an online form for individuals directly affected by the infringement,
- via the online form for staff of EU institutions, bodies and agencies, even if the employee is not directly affected.

4. refer the case to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
