Contact the European Parliament office in Slovenia
The Office of the European Parliament in Slovenia takes care of up-to-date information and involvement of its citizens in current debates and decisions adopted by the European Parliament, and therefore organizes
- regional forums and
- dialogue with stakeholders.
I. Regional forums are designed for discussions with various stakeholders - local authorities, civil society organizations, the business sector, the media and all stakeholders, and are therefore organized in those regions that are the subject of the European Parliament's case. The main event of the forum is a round table (or other form of public debate, adapted to the topic and the region) with Slovenian members of the European Parliament. The debate between interested citizens of Slovenia and Slovenian MEPs is intended to exchange views and clarify the key challenges, issues, effects and consequences of the new legislative proposal, which is being discussed in the European Parliament. Due to the elimination of doubts and oppositions, which are common in discussions on European Union policy, due to greater credibility, it is characteristic that the round table is also attended by independent representatives of various professional profiles - professors, experts, etc.
The staff of the European Office in Slovenia also visits secondary schools in the region where the forum takes place, with the aim of interactively presenting the work of the European Parliament and informing about the possibilities of active European citizenship.
II. Dialogue with stakeholders is aimed at developing common solutions for decision-making on European Union public policies. The dialogue with stakeholders is prepared in cooperation with the Slovenian Member of the European Parliament who is authorized to prepare a report on a specific legislative proposal or any other document. The preparation of the report includes the analysis of the legislative proposal and consultation with the profession and target groups of the legislative proposal, so stakeholders from the European, national and local levels are involved in the process.
The European Office in Slovenia directs part of its mission to actively raise awareness of young people about the role and activities of the European Parliament, and therefore organizes various activities and activities for young people:
- European Parliament Ambassador School Programme
The educational program, which is based on the goals of European integration, strengthening parliamentary democracy and raising awareness of the EU, is intended for Slovenian secondary and vocational schools - both students and teachers. The school must apply for the program, and the decision on the selection, which is in the domain of the Information Office of the European Parliament in Slovenia, is based on social and geographical balance. In-depth trainings are organized for teachers who run the program at their schools. The school sets up a physical or online EU info point, a point that provides all the information about the EU and the activities that are part of the program. The selected school (selected teachers - mentors ambassadors and selected student ambassadors) on the occasion of Europe Day (May 9), organizes an event related to the EU - European market, European music festival, debate competition and the like. The selected school also prepares school and extracurricular activities related to EU issues.
- Euroscola
Euroschool is a multilingual simulation of the European Parliament. It takes place with around 600 students from all over Europe occupying the plenary hall of the European Parliament in Strasbourg for one day in order to get to know current issues, find solutions and express opinions. From this, a set of resolutions emerges, which students vote on in plenary. MEPs are also attending the event. The event itself, in addition to the acquired knowledge of the EU, also promotes networking and strengthening students' language skills. The interested school must register for the Euroschool event through a call. The schools that win the competition announced by the European Parliament's Information Office travel to Strasbourg
- Gymnasium.EU
Gymnasium.EU is a radio show for young people, which takes place every Wednesday at 8 pm on the first program of Radio Slovenia. Discussions are taking place on current issues that are currently being debated in the European Parliament. Occasionally, Slovenian MEPs also join the debate in the studio. The weekly debates are monitored by the head of the Information Office of the European Parliament in Slovenia, who evaluates the participating teams. Listeners can also vote for their team via Facebook page. The final winners are rewarded with a two-day visit to the European Parliament simulation in Strasbourg.
