European Citizen's Prize - for outstanding achievements
European Parliament each year for specific achievements in the field of
awards a prize called Citizen of Europe. The award, which is given in the form of a medal of honor (for individuals) or in the form of a plaque (for groups, associations, organizations), is of symbolic value.

The application or nomination for the prize can be submitted via the official website (usually by the end of March) in all official EU languages:
Eligibility for the award:
Nominations are examined by the national jury of the Member State where most of the activities of the applied project took place in the financial context. The national jury consists of:
- at least three Members of the European Parliament,
- a representative of the national civil society organization, and
- a representative of the national youth organization,
who nominate a maximum of five candidates from their Member State to the award committee by the deadline set in accordance with the guidelines and voting methodology. The committee awards the prize (with an explanation) on the basis of a shortlist of candidates proposed by the national juries. The decision of the award committee is final (no possibility of appeal). The award committee may also revoke the prize in the event of misuse (false information at the time of registration, inappropriate use of the prize, activities contrary to the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, etc.).
The annual quota at EU level is a maximum of 50 prizes awarded. The decision on the winners will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The award ceremony is organized in the EU Member States. Every year, a central event for all winners is organized at the European Parliament in Brussels or Strasbourg.
Winners of the European Citizens' Award:
- in 2021,
- in 2020.
• activities that promote better mutual understanding and closer integration between the citizens of the Member States or strengthen cross-border or transnational cooperation within the European Union;
• activities involving long-term, cross-border or transnational cultural cooperation to strengthen the European spirit;
• projects related to the current European year;
• activities that are a concrete expression of the values enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union,

- individuals, groups, organizations that have carried out the project on their own, if they meet the conditions, or
- individuals, groups, organizations, if they meet the conditions, for a third party, if eligible, and

- projects implemented in full or in part on EU territory (at least 50% of the project budget),
- projects not more than 50% funded by the EU,
- projects that have not yet received an award from a European institution, body, office or agency,
- activities not related to the exercise of a political function or electoral mandate,
- activities in accordance with the values of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union,
- non-profit-making activities,
- activities other than public or governmental organizations,
- EU citizens who have not been convicted of a crime,
- third-country citizens, if they are lawfully resident in the territory of the EU on the day the application or nomination proposal is submitted and have not been convicted of a criminal offense,
- groups, associations and organizations with legal personality and valid registration in an EU Member State and have not been convicted of a criminal offense,
- groups, associations and organizations without legal personality:
- if the project manager and the representative are EU citizens and have not been convicted of a criminal offense (the project manager and the representative may be one and the same person)
- if the project leader and the agent are third-country nationals but legally resident in an EU Member State and have not been convicted of a criminal offense (the project and the agent may be one and the same person).
