European Data Protection Board
is an independent body, established in 2018, based in Brussels and responsible for:
- consistent application of data protection rules in the European Union adopted by - promoting cooperation and the exchange of good practice between national data protection authorities in the EU, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland,
therefore also:
· issue guidelines and recommendations explaining the rules and provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation,
· prepares and communicates the identified (in)
compliance in cross-border data protection cases,
· advises the European Commission on data protection matters.
however, it should be emphasized that the European Data Protection Board
does not provide individual instructions, guidance and advice to individuals, organizations and other entities that have questions and dilemmas regarding legislative provisions in the field of personal data protection and processing. Interested entities can obtain answers to their questions regarding data protection from an independent and autonomous state body, from the Information Commissioner.
The European Data Protection Board operates on the basis of Rules of procedure and a Memorandum of Understanding.
The content of the Strategy and the Work programme adopted are available to the public on the Board's website, as are the annual activity reports.
The structure of the European Data Protection Board consists of:
- representatives of national data protection authorities, and
- European Data Protection Supervisor,
The EDPB Secretariat provides logistical, administrative and analytical support to the Board.
